The Staff Room Sponsor Northants Education awards 2016

The Staff Room was once again proud to sponsor the Northants Education and Youth Ambition Awards.

The awards, held jointly by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Northants Telegraph, Daventry Express, and Northamptonshire County Council, celebrated outstanding schools and those who make them so.  The event was attended by over 600 people and held at Kettering’s Wicksteed Park on Wed 29 June 2016.

Grendon Primary School picked up Primary School of the Year, with Manor School Sports College in Raunds bagging Secondary School of the Year.

The Inspirational Teaching Award went to Gail Wickens from Rushden Academy. She won the accolade for the tremendous support she gave to a pupil whose career plans went out of the window due to a sporting injury.
Corby Business Academy’s Unit Provision won SEN Provision of the Year after an outstanding rank in a county council review.

NSB pupil Lily Carmichael picked up the Sporting Achievement award after representing the county at the English Schools Championships.

Beanfield Primary School in Corby won the Community Award, for their campaign for a zebra crossing outside the school. The school’s safeguarding manager, Sarah Flemming, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win the Community Award from the Northamptonshire Education Awards. “We have worked tirelessly over the years with the county council, the local councillors and the residents to make the roads around our school site safe”.
“The installation of the zebra crossing plays a big part in keeping our children safe when crossing the road.“This year throughout Road Safety Week and Walk to School Week our very own Beanfield Zebra was out helping children cross safely.

“The Beanfield Zebras were enjoyed by all and will continue now to be a Beanfield tradition.

“We are pleased that not only does the new zebra crossing benefit the school users, it also benefits the community as a whole.

The Inspirational Pupil Award went to Lings Primary pupil Ashtun Anderson, who is blind in one eye but doesn’t let that stop him from contributing to school life.

Clipston Endowed Primary School teaching assistant Janice Glover won the Unsung Hero award, after abseiling down the Northampton lift tower for charity.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Karen Wogan from Southfield School in Kettering. The assistant headteacher was recognised after working at the school for a staggering 37 years.

The final award of the evening was the University of Northampton Changemaker Award, which went jointly to Karen Wogan and Janice Glover.

The event was a fantastic evening celebrating the hardwork, enthusiasm and dedication of pupils, schools and their staff. The evening was a chance to celebrate our outstanding schools, and recognise the people who make them great.
